Spiral (single-ended) source

Under stress, a dislocation segment pinned at one end while the other one emerges at a free surface acts as a spiral source. This mechanism is particularly important in micropillars where the truncation of Frank-Read sources by free surfaces leaves a single pinning point in the volume.
